## What does a Finance Manager do?

A Finance Manager oversees day-to-day finance operations—budgeting, forecasting, month-end close, and cash management—while partnering with leaders to turn numbers into decisions. They maintain controls, ensure compliance, and improve processes so the business can scale confidently.

## Key responsibilities

- Lead month-end and year-end close; prepare management accounts and variance analysis
- Own budgeting, forecasting, and rolling cash-flow models
- Monitor KPIs (revenue, margins, OPEX, AR/AP, working capital) and provide insight
- Manage audit, tax, and statutory filings with external advisors
- Maintain financial controls, policies, and reconciliations (bank, balance sheet)
- Optimise AR/AP cycles; oversee credit control and supplier terms
- Evaluate investments and business cases (ROI, NPV, payback)
- Implement or improve finance systems and reporting automation
- Business partner with Ops, Sales, and People teams; support board reporting
- Line-manage and develop finance team members

## Essential skills & qualifications

- ACA/ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent experience)
- Strong grasp of IFRS/UK GAAP (or US GAAP for US roles)
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets; comfortable with BI tools (Power BI/Looker/Tableau)
- Hands-on with an ERP/accounting suite (Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, SAP)
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills
- Analytical mindset with process improvement focus and attention to detail

**Nice to have:** multi-entity or multi-currency exposure, SaaS metrics knowledge, experience in fast-growth SMEs or PE-backed environments.

## Reporting lines

Typically reports to the Financial Controller, Finance Director, or CFO. May supervise Assistant Accountants, AP/AR, and Payroll.

## Success metrics (KPIs)

- Month-end delivered on time and error-free
- Forecast accuracy (e.g., ±5–10% on revenue/cash)
- DSO/DPO and working-capital improvements
- Audit points cleared; clean statutory submissions
- Automation gains (hours saved, report turnaround)
- Budget adherence and cost-saving initiatives

## Tools you might list

Xero/NetSuite/Sage/SAP, Excel/Sheets, Power BI/Looker/Tableau, payroll platforms, expense and AP automation (Pleo, Spendesk, Bill.com), CRM (Salesforce/HubSpot).
